Bosque Fire Conditions

Welcome! This site provides access to fire weather data and fire danger conditions for the Albuquerque area Bosque. This work is funded by the Army Corp of Engineers (Corp), with support from the City of Albuquerque and the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District (MRGCD).

Fire weather data is obtained from two weather stations installed by the Corp following the Atrisco and Montano fires of 2003. The weather stations conform to National Fire Danger Rating System specifications. In addition to standard climate data, they provide fuel temperature and fuel moisture data.

Fire danger is determined using the National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS). The NFDRS uses climate and vegetation data to calculate four quantitative indices that provide estimates of fire hazard and fire suppression difficulty. The NFDRS also produces the more commonly seen “public” fire danger ratings (also referred to as “adjective” fire danger ratings) of low, medium, high, very high, and extreme.
